A Gift Of Life For Gift…..

Gift Khumalo is a four-year old, born in Krugersdorp, Westrand. He lives with both of his parents and two older siblings. Like many children his age, Gift enjoys watching cartoons and outdoor play. From birth he encountered health challenges which included flu-like symptoms and which nurses in his local clinic credited to a chest infection. His mother, Sindiso says it led to frequent clinic visits.

A Little Girl’s Quiet Strength – August Newsletter 2022

She stayed in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for three weeks. Her mother told us, “Kuqala bowungayizwa inhliziyo yakhe. Bowuzwa igazi me. Kodwa manje, for the first time, ngiyayizwa inhliziyo yakhe” meaning “You couldn’t hear her heartbeat at first. All you could hear was blood. But now, for the first time, I can hear her
heartbeat.”

Why Help the Boikanyo Foundation

The Boikanyo Foundation is a Public Benefit Organisation created by Golden East 181 Round Table in 2008, the foundation provides for the funding of critical heart surgery for underprivileged and indigent children within the Public Health Sector. Importantly, the Boikanyo Foundation works in partnership with the Nelson Mandela Children’s Hospital Fund (NMCHF) to increase the throughput of children’s heart surgery through their Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery.

Azingce Lolwana is a humble 6-year-old boy from Mthatha, Eastern Cape, where he lives with his father, mother, and younger brother. Azingce was often taken to the clinic by his mother for routine check-ups when he was younger. He appeared to be a healthy and happy child growing up, a child who loved to play with his toys, until everything changed in 2017. His mother observed that he was in poor health one day. She observed that he wasn’t quite himself.

  • Our Name

    Our name, The Boikanyo oundation, was proposed by the ICU staff of Johannesburg Hospital. The word originates from Tswana and directly translated means “We rely on you”, for it is our nations most destitute and impoverished children that rely on us to change their lives forever and for the better.
