Ms Mmapula Mmatjipa is 6yrs old and was referred to us from Polokwane in Limpopo province. She has a ventricular septal defect with a leaky aortic valve, and requires corrective surgery before the latter worsens. 

Ms Ntombi Khomotso Ndayi is 8 years old from Roodepoort, known with a congenital heart defect since she was 3 months of age. She requires complete correction of her ventricular septal defect with repair of her tricuspid valve. 

Wiseman Ngobeni is a cheerful 7yr from Daveyton, Springs. He suffers from a severe form of tetralogy of Fallot which has rendered him deeply cyanotic, with markedly decreased effort tolerance. 

Wiseman requires corrective surgery for his condition, which entails closing the intracardiac defects and relieving the obstruction to his right ventricle. He is expected to require a long convalescence following his surgery, but it is hoped that he will make a slow yet steady recovery. 

Baby Leethan was diagnosed with Supravalvular aortic stenosis (SVAS) which is a heart defect that develops before birth. Mom Carmen Brown says she was told six months into her pregnancy that the baby’s heart area has abnormal fluid around it. Leethan has been going to doctors for treatment since birth but over the last few months the lesion has worsened, and he became considerably symptomatic. He required a patch enlargement of the supravalvular pulmonary stenosis. Baby Leethen had his operations and is recovering well in the cardiac ward. “the doctors and nurses at NMCH are excellent. They are God sent and I am happy they saved my son’s life” says Mom.
