South Africa’s Children Rely on Us. And We Rely on You.
A New Beginning for Bandile: A Little Heart Healed
Four-year-old Bandile has spent most of his young life in and out of hospital, battling a Ventricular Septal Defect (VSD) — a small hole in the heart.
Because of his condition, Bandile struggled to breathe and feed properly, making it impossible for him to play with friends or thrive like other children his age. Every day carried the frightening risk of heart failure.
But thanks to your generous donation to The Boikanyo Foundation, Bandile’s life has been completely transformed.
Your contribution helped cover the vital medical consumables required for his operation — a life-saving surgery performed free of charge by the dedicated and compassionate surgeons at Nelson Mandela Children’s Hospital.
Without your support, Bandile might have faced years on a waiting list — a heartbreaking reality for many children born with VSD, as there are no government funds available to cover these procedures. Often, children are pushed further down the list as more urgent cases arise, waiting until their condition becomes critical.
But because of you, Bandile now has the chance to enjoy a healthy, happy childhood — free from symptoms, hospital visits, and fear.
He can now laugh, play, and dream — like every child deserves to.
From all of us at The Boikanyo Foundation, thank you for changing Bandile’s life.
Together, we are giving children like him the chance to grow, play, and dream again. 💛
To reduce the number of disadvantaged and underprivileged children awaiting life-changing heart surgery.
To improve the Children’s Heart Surgery Unit at The Nelson Mandela Children’s Hospital by providing resources and opportunities.
Our name, The Boikanyo oundation, was proposed by the ICU staff of Johannesburg Hospital. The word originates from Tswana and directly translated means “We rely on you”, for it is our nations most destitute and impoverished children that rely on us to change their lives forever and for the better.
